Rauw Alejandro
Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and went on to become the highest-streamed tune within six months. It was a mix of reggaeton, pop and rock did not only bring attention for reggaeton, it also drew interest to Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as another four in the year 2016. The Despacito album reached its peak popularity in 2017, 19 songs mainly made in Spanish made it to the top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake together with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers were unhappy about the trend toward popular music by 2020. But a new group, Rauw alejandro, was trying to change the course. His style often included elements of electronic dance music as well as other styles.
