Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963 at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing in the church choir when she was a young child. at the age of 15, she joined her mom in backing vocals in Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978. She went on to provide the backing vocals of Lou Rawls, Jermaine & Jackson as well as her own mother and was briefly a model appearing on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The high quality of her performance as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several big record labels like Arista who she signed in 1982 and remained for the remainder of her career. Whitney Houston, her debut album that debuted in 1985 was the top-selling debut album by an artist. On the album, she had several smash singles, such as Saving all My Love for You How Do You Know You're a Good Person and The Greatest Love of All. This helped her achieve seven US Number Ones consecutively. She beat even the Beatles. Album sold in US 3,000,000 copies and then increased to 25,000,000 copies world-wide. This was her first win in her 6 Grammys. Dana Bash is also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz and she is a journalist for the Washington Post as well as a reporter for CNN.
